Before You Install

The Launcher creates a separate modded SCP:SL install. It does not rewrite your Steam-managed vanilla install.

  • Windows 10 or newer, x64.
  • Linux through Wine or Proton, x64.
  • SCP:SL 14.2.7^, which means versions from 14.2.7 inclusive up to, but not including, 14.3.0.
  • MelonLoader 0.7.2.

macOS is not supported because SCP:SL does not ship a macOS build.

  1. A Steam account that owns SCP: Secret Laboratory.
  2. Space for a second copy of the game.
  3. A GameRoot outside the vanilla Steam install.
  4. Network access for verified game resources and the signed official Anomaly core.

You do not need administrator rights, a separate MelonLoader install, or a C# toolchain unless you are developing mods.

The official core is mandatory for a modded loadout. The Launcher verifies its signed release manifest, package metadata, dependency inventory, file sizes, and hashes before process creation. Missing, incompatible, unsigned, or modified official-core files block the modded launch.

Third-party DLLs are full-trust code. The development Launcher uses an audit policy for MelonLoader load surfaces and Anomaly managed modules. It does not automatically quarantine new assemblies or require individual hash approval for local rebuilds. Signed official packages still undergo signature and file-integrity verification.

A native Linux Launcher uses the selected loadout’s Wine prefix. Profile operations are available only when exactly one Windows user profile can be resolved beneath that prefix. A missing or ambiguous prefix is reported as unavailable; the Launcher does not guess.
